The development of neuronal damage after middle cerebral artery occlusion (induced stroke) was suppressed when rats had been previously fed noni juice for one week. Glucose intolerance and lowered serum insulin levels that follow induced stroke were countered by the 7-day noni juice pretreatment. Noni juice may promote insulin secretion and inhibit the development of glucose intolerance after ischemic stress, resulting in a neuronal protective effect.
