After a 7-day pretreatment of rats with noni juice, the typical neural damage from an induced stroke was reduced and glucose intolerance was completely removed. Serum insulin was increased significantly on day 1, while serum adiponectin levels were not affected at all. These results suggest that noni juice could facilitate insulin secretion and may attenuate the development of glucose intolerance under the stress of a stroke. These functions may contribute to the neuronal protective effect of noni juice against the stress of a stroke. (view original abstract at https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20460868).
